A University of Puerto Rico (UPR) is the university system of Puerto Rico. Though Puerto Rico is does'nt a state, the system is run much like a state university system. These are besides a big university formulas on the isl& and consisting of Xi campuses.

History

Around 1900, at Fajardo, the "Escuela Normal Industrial" is established when a number one higher education center around Puerto Rico. A as a result season it was moved to Rio Piedras. In March 12, 1903 a law was passed which oficially created the University of Puerto Rico. That equivalent day a "Escuela Normal" wwhen proclaimed as a foremost department of the University of Puerto Rico.

Inside 1908, the United States government extended financial help to a University of Puerto Rico when a portion of the Morill Work so making the university a land grant. From either these fresh funds a second campus, "El Colegio de Agricultura", was established within 1911 at Mayagüez. Of these month late its title was changed to "Colegio de Agricultura y Artes Mecánicas" (CAAM).

In September 20, 1966, so Governor Roberto Sánchez Vilella signed a law which reorganizes a University of Puerto Rico. A first changes were a as punishment: It grants complete autonomy to a School of Medicine which becomes the Medical Sciences campus. It grants complete autonomy to the Mayagüez & Río Pedras campuses. A previous is renamed when "Recinto Universitario de Mayagüez" (RUM), the title it keeps to this day. 3 regional colleges come established at Arecibo, Cayey and Humacao.

Inside 1969 a regional college at Cayey becomes an official campus. These are granted complete autonomy inside 1982.

Within 1969 a regional college at Ponce is inaugurated.

Inside 1970 a regional college at Bayamón is inaugurated.

Around 1972 a regional college at Aguadilla is inaugurated.

Around 1973 a regional college at Carolina is inaugurated.

Around 1978 a regional college at Utuado is inaugurated.
